Lebert Fitness: Inverted Row

The Inverted Row is one of the main exercises that I invented the Equalizer (EQ) for. With body weight training it’s so easy to find pushing and quad dominant exercises but it can be difficult to incorporate pulling movements. The EQ makes a very effective portable pulling solution!

Key Takeaways:

1. Rather than thinking about pulling up, think about DRIVING your elbows into the floor!
2. Get good at the BASIC row first before adding all the fancy ones.

The Wind Up

Place the EQ’s in the “V-shape” position. From the lying position have the knees bent, feet flat and head back. Grab the foam grips and BRIDGE. Pull to ceiling (driving elbows into the floor), pause at top and lower slowly.

Levelling Up:

The regression for this exercise is simply performing the basic row but the range of motion may be limited. That’s okay, bridge and pull up even if it’s an inch or so and rest. Complete 10 reps like this. Eventually you will pull higher and put more reps together...the progressions are many! In the video we covered:

    • EQ Single leg row

    • EQ Alternating leg row (Russian dance!)

    • EQ Single arm side row

    • EQ Suspended over/under row

    • EQ Archer row

    • EQ Full body weight row

    • EQ Partner row with static squat/bicep hold

    • EQ Partner high plank hold with my son again!
